When you walk from the town square down Tilegade to number 21(on your left hand) you will find "The old smithy". Tilegade was the first street that was founded in Nakskov.

Earlier on almost only craftsman lived here. Nearly every crafts were represented in this street and that is why the street around the century was called "Craftsman Street?", among travelling journeymen and others.

On the right side of the street lived only citizen of importance and officials, which can be seen on the buildings this very day.
 
About 1911 the smith occupied 8 journeymen and 3 apprentices. The smithy has tools that are more than 200 years old and on the addict accounting books from 1833 were found.

These and also other accounting books and pictures found later are now at the Local Record Office in Jernbanegade.
