Nakskov Inlet is Denmark’s inlet with the biggest number of islands – 10 big and some smaller islands together with a 7,5 kilometre long curved grass tongue of land called Albuen.

The inlet is 12 kilometres long and mostly encircled by 4 metres high storm surge dikes.

The inlet is mostly very shallow with depths under 2 metres, but here and there the inlet bottom is cut by natural and human created fairways. The oldest fairway is called “The Old Channel”. It is shaped from a river of melted water from the time, when the ice began to melt during the last Ice Age. A sail on the inlet nearly always takes place by this fairway, because you get very close to the big islands.
