Sanctuary the Maribo Lakes
In the middle of Lolland the Maribo Lakes are laying as a completely unique natural area with 4 lakes – with its 852 hectares Maribo Sønder Lake is the eighth largest lake in Denmark. With its 197 hectares Røgbølle Lake is the second largest of the Maribo Lakes. Hejrede Lake has 51 hectares and finally Nørre Lake has 40 hectares.
The lakes are laying in a magnificent manor landscape, which is encircled by meadow-, moor- and forest areas with cultivated fields; some places still with freestanding oaks.
There is a very rich plant-, bird- and animal life together with many culture historical sights including their relics of the past.
In 1991 the county nominated the Maribo Lakes to a kind of a regional Sanctuary. |
