The ferry Femøsund sails from Kragenæs on Lolland to Femø island. Along the way you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Fejø, Askø and Lilleø islands, and the vast array of birdlife that lives there. If you are lucky, the ferry may follow the course of couple of playful porpoise. The journey from Kragenæs to Femø takes about 50 minutes. If you are taking a car with you, remember to reserve a place on the ferry.
In contrast to the other small islands which are relatively flat, Femø is endowed with a varied terrain of hills and valleys formed during the Ice Age. ”Bækkenet” (the Basin) as it is called, winds in an especially idyllic way today. Femø has two villages, Nørreby and Sønderby, which are both characterised by historic houses and traversed by a welter of paths and roads.
There are fine bathing beaches on Femø, both west of the harbour and at the southerly point. However, if you prefer to have a beach all to yourself, you can easily find your own paradise beach by following one of the narrow earth roads that lead down to the water. On Femø you will also discover cliff coast, pebble beaches and tidal meadows, where you can have enjoyable experiences in nature. It is possible to fish for Sea Trout and for Garfish from May to June.
With its 35 km of public roads, Femø invites you to beautiful cycling tours and hiking for keen ramblers. If you have not brought your own bicycle, you can rent a good bicycle for your holiday, either from Havnehøkeren in the marina or Femø Kro inn in Nørreby. For more information about prices and conditions tel. +45 50 43 42 82 or +45 54 92 62 03.
The island’s marina is located in the middle of Femø’s westerly side. Both the harbour and the toilets were completely renovated in 2006. The harbour facilities include a service building with showers, washing machine and kitchen. There are good options for shopping year round at Havnehøkeren in ”Det Gule Magasin” and a short distance to the beach and the telebus. Free internet access is available for guest sailors.
