The Falster Dike was built after the storm surge of 1872, when many people lost their lives on Lolland-Falster. The dike is 17.5 kilometres long and was constructed by hand over a period of four years.

Today, the path along the top of the dike is popular with both hikers and cyclists. From here, there are views across the Baltic Sea on one side and the reclaimed landscape with holiday homes and plantations on the other.

In several places, paths lead down from the dike to the beach, and there are also steps leading to the inland side.
