Gedser Bird Observatory

At the southern tip of the Danish island of Falster, Gedser Bird Observatory is located close to Gedser Odde. Its position on the Baltic Sea makes this part of Falster an important gathering point for many migratory birds travelling between Scandinavia and areas further south.
The observatory works with bird migration monitoring and scientific ringing of small birds. Ringing takes place in both spring and autumn and provides valuable information about the movements and migration patterns of different species.
Trees and shrubs around the observatory attract many small birds, while Gedser Odde offers opportunities to watch migrating birds passing over both land and sea. Depending on the season, visitors may see birds of prey, cranes, small birds and a variety of waterbirds.
Gedser Bird Observatory also organises educational activities focusing on bird migration and ringing. At selected events, visitors can learn how birds are ringed, measured and identified.
The observatory is located on Gedser Fyrvej near Gedser Odde and can easily be combined with a walk along the KØSTEN hiking route. It is an interesting stop for experienced birdwatchers as well as visitors simply curious about nature and bird migration at the southern tip of Denmark.
