Marie Grubbe spent the final years of her life by Grønsund, where she operated a ferry crossing between the Danish island of Falster and the neighbouring island of Bogø. The former noblewoman became known for her unusual life story and later inspired several Danish writers and artists.
The area around the former ferry crossing also tells the story of life along Grønsund and the connections between the islands that shaped the area for generations.
