Ravnsborg Castle Ruins are among the most important medieval monuments on the island of Lolland and an attractive destination for visitors interested in Danish history, medieval castles and scenic landscapes. The site is located on the northern coast of Lolland, overlooking the Småland Sea, where the mighty Ravnsborg Castle once guarded important shipping routes.

The impressive castle mound rises approximately 18 metres above sea level and reflects the strategic importance of the fortress during the 14th century. Ravnsborg was one of the most significant royal castles in medieval Denmark. It was built in the 1330s by Count John the Mild of Holstein before later becoming part of the Danish Crown under King Valdemar Atterdag. For centuries the castle served as a royal administrative centre until it was dismantled in the early 16th century. Much of its brickwork was reused in buildings elsewhere on Lolland.

Although the castle itself has disappeared, the earthworks clearly reveal the scale of the original stronghold. The castle mound stretches for more than 100 metres and was once surrounded by massive brick walls. A long wooden bridge connected the fortress to the mainland, making it one of the best-defended castles of its time.

Today, Ravnsborg Castle Ruins offer a peaceful combination of history, nature and panoramic coastal views. Information boards explain the site's fascinating past, while the surrounding landscape invites visitors to imagine life inside one of medieval Denmark's strongest fortifications.

A visit to Ravnsborg Castle Ruins is ideal for history enthusiasts, walkers and families looking to experience both cultural heritage and nature. The site can easily be combined with other attractions in northern Lolland, including historic churches, manor houses and cultural landmarks that tell the story of this remarkable region.
