The redoubt was constructed during the conflicts with Britain in the early 19th century as part of the defence of Grønsund. The fortification was surrounded by a deep moat and equipped with six cannons overlooking the shipping route between the Danish islands of Falster, Bogø and Møn.
The area is also home to the old pilot houses, which tell the story of life along the coast and the pilots who once guided ships through Grønsund.
