KØSTEN - Etape 1
Follow KØSTEN along Falster’s northeastern coastline from Stubbekøbing to Hesnæs through coastal landscapes, forests and historic sites. A hiking route with sea views, cultural heritage and memorable nature experiences.

KØSTEN Trail Stage 1 is a scenic hiking route on the northeastern coast of Falster, connecting Stubbekøbing Harbour with Hesnæs Harbour. Covering 16 kilometres, the route offers a varied combination of coastal scenery, forest landscapes, cultural history and panoramic views across Grønsund towards the islands of Bogø and Møn.
The hike begins in the historic market town of Stubbekøbing, where the harbour still reflects the area's maritime heritage. From here, the trail follows Falster’s coastline through small holiday home areas, along the historic Søborg Dyke and past open coastal stretches with impressive sea views. Nature and history are closely connected throughout the route.
Along the way, hikers encounter several notable landmarks, including the former ferry site of Marie Grubbe, memorials connected to loudspeaker co-inventor Peter L. Jensen and the historic Skansen fortification built during the Napoleonic Wars. These sites add cultural depth to the walking experience and reveal stories from Falster’s past.
Roughly halfway through the route, the landscape changes as the trail enters the extensive Corselitze forests. Here, beech trees grow close to the coastal cliffs overlooking the Baltic Sea. At Hestehoved Lighthouse, visitors reach the easternmost point of Falster before continuing towards Hesnæs.
The route ends at Hesnæs Harbour, famous for its distinctive fishermen’s cottages with thatched walls. Today, the harbour is a welcoming destination for hikers, sailors and nature enthusiasts. KØSTEN Trail Stage 1 is ideal for visitors seeking an active outdoor experience that combines coastal nature, forest scenery, local history and peaceful surroundings.
